ShutterKit (“we”, “us”) rents camera, lens, lighting and audio equipment from 75/45 Sandun Uyana, Kottawa, Sri Lanka. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use shutterkitlk.com or rental from us, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in line with Sri Lanka’s Personal Data Protection Act No. 9 of 2022.
What we collect
- Account and contact details: your name, email address, phone number and address when you register or book.
- Identity details: the type and number of the photo ID you give at checkout (National Identity Card, passport or driving licence). We check it when you collect equipment and keep it with the booking.
- Booking details: the items, dates, deposit and payments on each rental, plus any notes you add and our notes on the condition of returned equipment.
- Payment details: if you pay by bank transfer we see the transfer reference; if you pay by card, the card details are handled by the payment provider and never stored by us.
- Technical details: cookies and basic usage data (pages visited, device type) needed to run the site, keep you signed in and remember your cart.
Why we use it
- To create and manage your account and process your rentals, deposits and refunds.
- To verify your identity before releasing equipment, which protects both you and our kit.
- To contact you about a booking: confirmations, collection and return reminders, and anything that needs your attention.
- To recover equipment or charges if a rental is not returned or is returned damaged, including sharing details with our insurer or, where necessary, the police.
- To keep records required by tax and accounting law.
- To send occasional news about new kit or offers, only if you have opted in; you can unsubscribe at any time.
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with services needed to run the business: our website host, payment providers, courier companies for deliveries, our insurer for claims, and our accountant. Each receives only what it needs for its task.
How long we keep it
Booking and payment records are kept for seven years to meet accounting requirements. ID numbers are kept with the booking for the same period so that any dispute about a rental can be resolved. Account details are kept while your account is active; you can ask us to close your account at any time.
Your choices and rights
- You can view and edit your details under My account.
- You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where we are not required to keep it.
- You can withdraw consent to marketing messages at any time.

Cookies
The site uses cookies that are necessary to keep you signed in, remember your cart and protect the site. We do not use advertising cookies. You can block cookies in your browser, but booking will not work without the necessary ones.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, account passwords are stored in hashed form, and access to booking records is limited to staff who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so if you believe your information has been exposed, contact us straight away.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be announced on the site.
